Engelsk! Om Australien & Kenya.. Engelsk! Om Australien & Kenya..

Hejsa.. Vi er ved at skrive om Australien og Kenya.. Indtil videre har vi skrevet:

Australia

Facts:

Area: 7.686.850 km2
Population: 19.250.000
Capital: Canberra
Large cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth
Currency: Australian dollar (A$)
Highest place: Mount Kosciusko

Australia is the world’s 6thlargest country – and the largest island.
It’s considered a continent because of its size and because it’s so isolated.
Australia is in the southern hemisphere, in the part of the world called Oceania, between the Indian Ocean and the southern Pacific Ocean.
The country consists of the huge main island plus Tasmania, which is one of Australia’s seven states, and several smaller islands along the coast.

Australia’s seven states:
Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

Every state has its own parliament and identity, but a common central government which is in the capital, Canberra.
The British queen is the head of state, with a general-governor as a deputy in the country.

The Europeans came to Australia in the 1700´s, but the Australian culture history goes back way longer. The first citizens were the aboriginals, who wandered from Southeast Asia for at least 50.000 years ago.
In 1788, they were around 300.000 aboriginals living like half-nomads. There are still many aboriginals, but their way of living has changed a lot.

Things we are going to see:

- The Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia.

- Ayers Rock, also called Uluru, is considered once of the great wonders of the world. It is a large rock formation in central Australia, in the Northern Territory.

- The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system, composed of roughly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands that stretch for 2,61 kilometers and cover an area of approximately 344,400 km². The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia.

- Australia Zoo is located in the Australian state of Queensland on the Sunshine Coast near Beerwah/Glass House Mountains. It is owned by Terri Irwin, widow of Steve Irwin, whose wildlife documentary series The Crocodile Hunter made the zoo a popular tourist attraction. It is directed by Wes Mannion, Steve's best friend.

Although best known for the crocodiles and the live crocodile feedings, the zoo is also known for featuring exhibits of other Australian wildlife, including koalas, wombats, Tasmanian devils, snakes, and (until 2006) a giant Galápagos tortoise called Harriet, who was generally acknowledged as the world's oldest living chelonian when she died on June 23, 2006, at the age of 176. The Zoo also features a smaller selection of animals from around the world, including elephants, tigers, cheetahs and Komodo Dragons.

Kenya

The Republic of Kenya is a country in Eastern Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the northeast, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, and Sudan to the northwest, with the Indian Ocean running along the southeast border.
Kenya comprises 8 provinces each headed by a centrally appointed (by the president) Provincial Commissioner. The provinces (mikowa) are subdivided into 71 districts (wilaya'at) which are then subdivided into 262 divisions (taarafa). The divisions are then subdivided into approximately 1,088 locations (kata) and then sublocations (kata ndogo). The City of Nairobi enjoys the status of a full administrative province. The government supervises administration of districts and provinces. The provinces are:
1) Central
2) Coast
3) Eastern
4) Nairobi
5) North Eastern
6) Nyanza
7) Rift Valley
8) Western

Things we are going to see/do:

- We are going on wildlife safari. A wildlife safari in Kenya is said to be one of the world’s greatest travel experiences.

- We are going to see Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world. Lake Victoria geographically dominates the area with its 70,000km2 surface. Despite its huge size, the lake is not that deep - only 100 meters at its deepest.

Vi skal jo nok skrive noget mere, men ved ikke lige hvad... Det er til fremlæggelse og rapport...

På forhånd tak,
Rikke & Anja
